OUR CHRISTIAN EDUCATOR: Beth Peak Thompson

Beth grew up in Alabama, and is a graduate of Auburn University. She says she had no intention of becoming a Christian Educator when she finished college. But when she took a mission trip abroad, her colleagues traveling with her began suggesting she should consider full-time ministry. When she returned to the United States, she thought she might inquire about entering the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA, and so she called. Within a month, she was enrolled and at the school, ready to start! Wow!

Beth graduated from PSCE in 1985 and began her ministry as Christian Educator at First Presbyterian Church in Waco, TX as Director of Youth and College Ministry, where she served for five years. For three years she was the Director of Christian Education in First Presbyterian Church in Laurens, SC; and then for eight years she served as DCE at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth. A brief, interim position as a DCE was in Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church in Hoover, AL, as she prepared to go onto the mission field. From June 2001 to June 2003, she has been serving as a mission volunteer at Puentes de Cristo, the Presbyterian Church's border ministry in Reynosa, Mexico. She says her job there was Mission Team Coordinator (coordinating all of the teams from the USA who came to the border to build houses), and Water Project Coordinator (which required her to learn how to keep the water pumps working for water in the colonias. And therein lies many a funny story!).

Beth has a passion for working with youth and children. She is a "veteran" of many Synod Youth Workshops and summer camps. Her delight is to see children and youth begin to understand the gospel and see it blossom in their lives.

Beth began working part-time at Trinity (25 hrs/week) in August, 2003. Her duties are in the area of Christian Education for all ages. Her other time is spent doing mission work and working for Presbytery in various capacities. Beth recently married pastor Paul Thompson in March 2006

You may contact her at trinity@trinitypresdenton.org .
